  • I don't think multikills should be a big factor. Most of the time I don't end up with alot of mvp stars cuz after i get a frag i like to play a more passive style. I do believe impact should be a statistic, this sould be messeared by kills in winning rounds. I have alot of those even if i don't get many team whipes. ADR in winning rounds could also be used.

    • Think about the command, logaddress is a place for log files to go, and add 1 adds a new place. Maybe csgo has issues handling too many log files in a folder and a new folder makes it lighter.

  • cool. Will this be implemented into the everyday players competitive experience, so that rankings are more accurate and come when better deserved? I feel the current system is extremely flawed, especially for silver. I remember when I somehow went from s1 to s3, s3 was so so so so so so so so so so much easier and thus much funner than s1. Then I soon got deranked to s1, back in silver hell :/. I can't be sure if I'm stuck with smurfs, or with the 50% of noobs, or if I'm shit, or if the opponents are great, or if I can't effectively communicate, or if the enemy can. This is the reason I hate csgo. I don't think I should be trapped in the lowest tier possible and feel I'm playing with extremely skilled players. It's unfair and extremely upsetting, mostly because it means me improving my skills to finally get a better rank is near impossible, as I die super easy because against the elites I'm up against, I'm like a fish out of water.

  • I find weird that these ratings don’t count defusal or plant, no bonus/multiplayer for a 1vX clutch… in general there are just so many aspects define skill and success as a player, I’d rather people stopped trying to be alchemists and pull one number out of their ass and just show leaderboards of the core gameplay stats, like in team sports. Then analysts can aggregate and we can agree or not.

  • Yep that's it. Dpr is more influencial than Kpr and that make players like karrigan look bad. I watched many games of Mousesports where Karrigan is the real hero of the game with his great plays that create so much space for the team and he usually gets a kill or two doing that before dying. But when you check the ratings after the game it's like Ropz: 23/17, 80 adr 1.20 rating Karrigan: 25/26, 95 adr 1.08 rating like hltv is doing dirty to my boi karrigan

  • TL:DR; I believe Dave has taken a few too many shortcuts in his calculation, and that his attempts of reverse engineering the formula are futile as it's not a constant formula. Relating to my previous comment, the "IMPACT"-rating that previously only accounted for multikills has been adjusted, where it now also accounts for entry kills and clutches. So the formula isn't entirely correct. The following stats are factored into the total rating: - KPR - DPR - ADR - KAST(%) - IMPACT which in turn factors in: - Multikills - Entry kills - Clutches So the formula shown in the video does not use the correct metrics. Further, the actual Rating 2.0 calculates two Ratings, one for each half, and averages them out. We can see this in the following game: www.hltv.org/matches/2346381/godsent-vs-izako-boars-snow-sweet-snow-1 In the final map of Overpass, GODSENT played 15 rounds on the CT-side, and 6 rounds on T-side. We can see that in 15 rounds on CT, dumau managed a 1.64 Rating, and in 6 rounds on T he managed a 2.47 Rating. HLTV averages this out to a Rating of 1.88, which is done by multiplying the Rating on each side by the number of rounds played on that specific side, adding them up and dividing by the total number of rounds, in this case 21. Dave mentions that the Rating is calculated differently for CT- and T-sides, which makes the formula more complex, though the formula Dave calculates would be a lot different had he used the correct methods. I'd love to see Dave try this method (using the same formula for both sides but averaging them out based on halves and the lengths of those) and see the results - if they're promising it means they don't calculate the two Ratings *differently*, rather just doing the calculation twice. IMPACT-rating is a mystery in itself. Dave mentions this in the blog post, that he makes a rough estimate of the IMPACT-rating based on KPR and Assists, which is good enough to fit the model. After all, making a lot of clutches will give you a lot of multikills, and conversely a high KRP, and playing as an entry-fragger will give you a lot of 1-for-1 trades and assists. It works, but it's inaccurate, and I suspect if the correct metrics were used the rest of the formula would also be a lot different. Lastly, this formula is not constant, and it's constantly averaging the data from a match towards the "total" average in a given period of time. This time-period is unknown. As far as I'm aware it does not average the rating towards the data from the game itself, that would make ratings fluctuate more from game to game, and it does not average versus the All-time statistics either as they would be skewed because of changes in the meta. Statistics from 2016 games would be less relevant for 2021 games as the meta of the game has changed a lot. Since HLTV likes to use the "Past 3 months" time period a lot, I'm guessing that's what they use for the rating as well, alternatively the past 6 months. I would suspect every now and again, maybe once a day or once a week, it quietly adds up all their recorded statistics from the past 3/6 months, averages them out over the amount of games played, and uses that number for the next day/week going forward. This would explain why ratings from long, long ago don't change just because the "total" statistics do. Games from 2017 with a certain Rating will have that same Rating recorded for all time going forward. This is why calculating the exact formula for Rating 2.0 isn't all that productive - because the formula is only useful if you hold all the data on HLTV. And yes, all that data is readily availible, and accessible through APIs, but it's a monumental task to gather all that data and frankly not useful when you can just look up the Rating on HLTV. I'd imagine if Dave ran the same calculations with the same equation in 1-2 years, the error margins would be bigger. Further, if the formula was publicly known, it could be exploited by players to adjust their playstyle to get a better rating than they deserve. This might seem like a small thing, but if you're the only positive rated player on your team when you get smacked 16-7, you're gonna look really attractive to other teams who need new players. So this sort of stuff could potentially lead to players picking up lucrative deals and diluting the scene, ruining teams, and would damage the competitive integrity of the sport in the long run.

  • I think HLTV works super well to judge individual ability. i started playing around when they added 2.0, and i kept ranking up while i had a rating higher than 1, and when i reached global, i settled at 1, +/- .01 and ive seen this for other people too, where if their rating is higher than 1, they are sure to rank up soon, as theyre clearly performing all their opponents on average. it may not be perfect, but its close, i have yet to see a rating that felt off. its certainly better/more useful than RWS is.

  • Dying is an interesting factor. If you don't die it can be from playing smart, or from not helping your team mates for example. That's difficult to assess in numbers. If you die trading yourself for an entry from your team mate as a T is good while trading yourself for a kill as CT defending a site sounds realy bad. If you die by trying to kill an enemy player after time when your team has enoth money anyway the death is a sign of good effort and has no bad impact excapt for the 300$ the enemy gets. These and many more things are basics that people should be aware of when they try to play somewhat serious.

  • for the presentation of the rating, i think that they should present it the same way that "+" stats are shown in baseball (OPS+, wRC+, etc.). the way it works is they take all of the players in the league OPS and set it on a scale of 0-200 where league average is 100. so if you have a rating of 155, you are 55% better than the average player

  • The only true rating is how much you ultimately win. Everything is secondary. Who knows, maybe there exist some strategy where a player on the team never shoots. but what they do is still vitally important tothe team wining. But at that point you are rating teams= not individual players. still, you need to see the flaws in rating 2.0.

  • Kliksmeister, I know you don't want to have a falling out with Valve or the mods on the r/globaloffensive community, but c'mon, I don't think you've ever tried to downplay severe issues with 'unspoken hints' before. Matchmaking is unplayable, and it's not even worth playing the operation missions. It's not only bad enough that cheaters run rampant in EVERY SINGLE GAME, but the introduction of mixed-rank games is beyond comprehension. There's no point even having ranks if you're playing in a game with completely mixed skill groups. There's no difference between CS:GO's current matchmaking and joining a game of CoD team deathmatch, the good players populate the top of the scoreboards and it doesn't matter if you win or lose anymore.
